Mathura

Just an hour’s drive from Agra, on the banks of the river Yamuna, is situated the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The entire land is dotted with magnificent temples, dedicated to various aspects of his life. The twin cities of Mathura and Vrindavan, where he was born and where he grew up, still resound to the sound of his laughter, antics and his magical flute. Some of the famous temples are: Govind Dev Temple, Rangaji Temple, Dwarikadhish Temple, Bankey Bihari Temple and the ISKCON Temple. Gokul, Barsana and Goverdhan are the other township associated with the legend of Lord Krishna. Gokul is the hideout where Lord Krishna was secretly brought up-away from the eyes of his maternal uncle Kansa. His consort Radha belonged to Barsana, where the unique Holi festival Latthamar Holi is celebrated with great gusto. At Goverdhan, Krishna raised a mighty mountain on his little finger to protect the locals from the wrath of rain-god Indra.

Agra

On the right bank of the River Yamuna, Agra reigns over a glorious past created by warriors as skilled in art and architecture as they were on the battlefield. The city’s historical origins before the Mughal conquest are dim and it was practically founded by the Mughal Emperor Babur. To the lover of art and to the traveler seeking the wonders of India, Agra is the goal of a pilgrimage, its shrines being the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

Taj Mahal

The inimitable poem in white marble. Built over a period of 22 years, by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1630, for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains, it is Number One of the Seven modern wonders of the World. Around 20,000 workers from all over the country and central Asia were recruited to translate this dream into a reality. (Taj Mahal is closed on Friday)

Agra Fort

built by three Mughal Emperors starting from Akbar the Great in 1565 AD, which is a masterpiece of design and construction. Within the fort are a number of exquisite buildings including the Moti Masjid, Jahangir's Palace, Khaas Mahal and the Sheesh Mahal, Diwane-i-Am, Diwane-i-Khas and Musamman Burj, where Emperor Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal Emperor, died as a prisoner.

Jaipur

Built by Sawai Jai Singh, the city of Jaipur is amongst the first of India’s planned cities. The ancient heart of the Pink City still beats in its fairy tale palaces; rugged fortresses perched on barren hills and broad avenues. Jaipur has a timeless appeal in its colorful bazaars that delights for its Rajasthan handlooms and trinkets. Beautifully laid out gardens and parks, attractive monuments and marvelous heritage hotels, once the residence of Maharajas, are worth admiration that makes a trip to the pink city a memorable one.

City Palace

The former royal residence built in a blend of the Rajasthani and Mughal styles which houses a museum with a superb collection of Rajasthani costumes and armoury of the Mughals and Rajputs, including swords of different shapes and sizes with ornate handles. It has an art gallery with an excellent collection of miniature paintings, carpets, royal paraphernalia and rare astronomical works in Arabic, Persian, Latin and Sanskrit.

Jantar Mantar

An astrological and astronomical Observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 18th century, which is remarkable for its accuracy even at the present times.

Amber Fort

The ancient capital of the State until 1728. The Amber Fort, the capital of the erstwhile State of Jaipur until 1728 is perched on a hill. It has halls of Public and Private Audience, a Sheesh Mahal (hall of mirrors) various marble palaces which are marvelous examples of ancient Rajput architecture. The Temple of Amba (Mother Goddess), the patron deity of the Royal family is at the entrance to the palace. Ride an elephant to ascend the hill on which the Fort is situated. (subject to availability and on direct payment).

Day 1: Delhi

Pick up from New Delhi Airport / Railway Station and transfer to the Hotel. After completing check-in formalities and little rest visit Red Fort and attend the light and sound show. (Depending on the time of arrival at Delhi, few sightseeing locations from Day 2 can be shifted to Day 1). Overnight at Delhi.

Day 2: Delhi

After breakfast, day will be spent visiting Qutub Minar, Akshardham Temple, Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, Raj Ghat, Lotus Temple, Humayun Tomb, Lodi Gardens, Jantar Mantar, Iskon Temple, Rajpath and Jama Masjid. Evening at leisure. Overnight at Delhi.

Day 3: Delhi to Agra via Mathura

After breakfast check out from the Hotel at Delhi and leave for Agra (approx. 250 kms / 6 hours). On the way sightseeing of Mathura and Vrindavan.

Day 4: Agra Sightseeing

After breakfast, visit Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

Day 5: Agra to Jaipur

After breakfast check out from the hotel at Agra and proceed to Jaipur (approx. 250 kms/ 6 hours). En-route, visit Fatehpur Sikri, within it, lies the tomb of the great Sufi saint Salim Chisti. It houses the Panch Mahal and the Buland Darwaza, two of the many excellent representations of Mughal architecture. Arrive Jaipur by evening and check into the hotel.

Day 6: Jaipur City Tour

After breakfast, embark on a city tour of Jaipur which will include City Palace, Jantar Mantar and drive past Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal. Visit Albert Museum and Birla Mandir. Overnight at Jaipur.

Day 7: Jaipur City Tour

This morning take an excursion to Amber fort, 11kms in the outskirts of the city is Amber Fort, the ancient capital of the State until 1728. Visit the Temple of Kali, the Hall of Victory or Jai Mahal and Jagmandir. You can have the unique experience of traveling on elephant back to and from the top of the hill on which the fort is situated. Also visit Jaigarh and Nahargarh Forts. Evening drive to Choki Dhani- an ethnic village for dinner situated 45 kms from Jaipur, offers an ideal pastoral experience. Away from the urban life the quaint mud and thatch dwellings in the resort give the right blend of traditions- modern amenities in typical ethnic environment. Group can enjoy various cultural activities at the resort. Overnight at Jaipur.

Day 8: Jaipur City to Jaipur Airport / Jaipur Railway Station

After breakfast transfer is provided to Jaipur Airport / Jaipur Railway Station.

The initial itinerary from before the trip was fine. Once we got on the train, a more detailed itinerary was found (a few days into the trip) in a red folder in our room. That gave us a good idea of what to expect. Though times varied a little.

In Delhi – not sure if the first day we were supposed to have just a driver, or a driver/guide type of person. He was only a driver to us. The second day in Delhi we have a driver and a guide. And the guide was very helpful at the sites we went to. On the train – very good.

The hotel in Delhi was very nice. It had some stains on the carpet in the room, but everything else was very good. The train was also very nice, though it was looking old. Food Arrangements All very good. Support during the Tour was very good. The service was excellent on the train. And thank you Sheetal for checking in on us and making sure everything was right.
